Tallest masonry lighthouse in NJ and third tallest in the USA.
Amazing structure, for those here not in excellent health it is not recommended to climb it.
I stopped at each landing to let my leg rest and they have literature to read and a window to look out of. The first order Fresnel lens weighs 12,800 lbs, was made in France and the 2 300 watt lightbulbs can be seen 20 miles away.
At the top is a staff person to discuss the lighthouse and is full of wonderful tidbits not in the literature (He is 80 years old and climbs the stairs 4 times a day 5days a week).
Well worth a visit as there is information in the museum below as well.
Very nice..It is such a huge structure! Enjoyed...
Beautiful set! All good, but your interior shots really engage me.

For those watching this, I found the walls interesting.
The exterior wall is a conical shape and the interior wall is a cylinder shape.
The space between is vented to the interior to keep the exterior wall dry on both sides.
There are 4 perpendicular walls connecting the 2 walls until they join about 10' from the top where there are vents just below the lantern to let outside air in to provide oxygen to the original flame.

Really neat pictures and great, great place. I love places with a history.
Interesting interior. Thank you.
Wonderful photos of the interior.
Nice shooting! The second shot is very impressive.
Excellent set. Lighthouses are special IMO. And so are the people who live and work in them.
