Tamron 18-400

I am looking at getting an R7 body when it becomes available. Does anyone have experience using the Tamron 18-400 EF-S lens on an R7 or R10? I know that you would need an adapter.

I don't know about Canon, but I have an older version of the 18-400 for Nikon which works fine on DX bodies, but not with the FTZ adapter for Z mount and it cannot be updated. With Nikon, there is a point in the lens serial number sequence where before that point won't work and after that point can be updated to work.

NO issue with Canon as all your EF mount lenses work just fine on the R cameras.
That is the beauty of the RF mount NOT orphaning thousands of EF/EFs lenses.
Sadly Nikon Z is only compatible with just a few of the newest F mount lenses.

I don't think there would be a problem as the Tamron 18-400 is made for the crop sensor camera which the R7 and R10 are. You do need the RF to EF adopter.

That is naïve, there are electronics and software/firmware involved in the camera body and the lens. Anything is possible.

I have both the R7 and the Tamron 18-400. Used it to take action shots of youth football. Took great images, even zoomed to 300mm. This is one of the 300mm shots.

That is what I was looking for. Actual experience. I use it with the T7i which I noticed you are selling.

I have two more questions for you. Does the IBIS stabilize the image in the EVF and do you have any focusing issues with the 18-400 on the R7?

No focusing issue, my only complaint is that with the adapter, it is lengthly, but for that kind of shooting, i use a monopod to help stabilize it. I also use back button single spot focusing. Since my 7 came with the kit 18-150, which is much lighter than the 18-400, the 18-150 may become my walk-around lens, saving the 400 for long range sports and nature.

The Zeiss 24-600mm lens f4 (24:1 ) on the RX 10m4 is the sharpest zoom I have ever used and begins to rival the Canon 300 2.8 prime that I have used. So, a fully professional 24:1 zoom CAN be done - but who will step up and DO it ?? (for APSC) - 16-400 f4-5.6 would be nice ....@ $18-1900
