What was your reason(s) for choosing the R7 over the FF models initially?

Try other camera shops. I have ordered and received 2 R7s since July 1. Hunt's Camera, Campus Camera, Bedford's Camera would be worth a try; get on their lists. The smaller shops get smaller shipments, it is true, but they also have smaller demand.

I assume you are referring to the R10 as the affordable full frame. I haven't looked at the proposed specs. I just know that it appears to be a budget FF body. I went that route years ago with the original 6D, also what I would call a budget FF. I had a 7DII at the time. I was very pleased with the 6D and for my type of shooting I found that I was using the 7DII less and less. Eventually sold it. I don't regret moving away from APS-c in the least. I went to a 5DIV, then an R, and my current R5 is the most perfect camera I have ever owned. If the R10's capabilities will meet your needs then I suggest you go for it, especially if it will save you some money! (It won't actually save you money. You'll just spend the difference on some of those great RF lenses! That's how it works for me anyway.)

Edit: I see that the R10 is an APS-c body, not a FF. I'm pretty sure that Canon has a budget FF mirrorless in the works, which is probably what you were referring to. Obviously I don't know the model number but my reccomendation still stands. Time for more coffee!

Although I am impressed with some of the focusing features of the R7, I have decided that I really don't want to wait for it at this time. For my current GAS syndrome, I will instead get the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro (which will rival the Galaxy S22 with a 7 element lens and 48MB sensor according to rumors) for my next trip - which will be to a large city where I really won't need to focus on the eyes of birds, do 30 fps, etc. It is supposed to be announced in the next few weeks and be available shortly after that. And the iPhone I can keep in a zippered pants pocket. And - I suppose I can make phone calls with it.

You can make phone calls with those things? What will they think of next? Pretty soon you will be able to play games on them and who knows what else!

I will call around. Some have R7 with kit lenses... have no use for kit lenses.

Maybe R9 or R8 for single digits in Canonese. Wondering about "RP". Clueless where the "P" came from.
Po'Boy model ?

RP, R, R7, and R10 can all be considered good values for the price depending on what is valuable to the individual. If you want the latest in autofocus capability, the R7 and R10 would offer the best value. If you want the lowest system weight or longest reach, the R10, and R7 would offer the best value. Best value in image quality might be the FF capabilities of the R or RP (though the R7 appears to have great IQ as well). The list could go on and on.

Since no specifics of the next FF are known, it's value to any particular user is unknown.

Why would anyone buy a full frame camera when you can use your cellphone... to make a call? 🤪🤪🤪
