Jane Fonda was a patriot, trying to end the senseless involvement of the United States in the Vietnam War. An involvement that led to the death of millions of Vietnamese civilians and military. The United States was directly responsible for upwards of 100,000 or more civilian deaths due to the bombing of North Vietnam. The United States was directly responsible for upwards of 400,000 civilian deaths due to Agent Orange. The United States was directly responsible for the extended duration of the war and the resulting deaths of civilians and military. All to prevent the unification of Vietnam after it was divided as a result of World War II and international meddling in the internal affairs of that country.

"Fonda is a true patriot. Criticizing Nixon is anything but treason just as criticizing Trump is not treason. Many on the Right confuse criticizing the government with hating America when it’s actually the opposite.
She is h**ed in part because she sat for a picture in North Vietnam:
Fonda was trying to end a war she felt was resulting in young Americans dying unnecessarily in a war that should not be fought.
The stance she took and the things she said have been proven to be correct. The accusations she made were accurate.
Fonda was an American patriot trying to correct what she perceived as a tragic national mistake.
In the 1970s, Fonda was a Vietnam protestor, touring military towns and universities speaking on behalf of the soldiers she felt were wrongly deployed to Vietnam. "I was infuriated as I learned just how much our soldiers were being lied to about why we were fighting in Vietnam and I was anguished each time I would be with a young man who was traumatized by his experiences," Fonda writes on her website. In 1972, Fonda made a trip to North Vietnam where she broadcast 10 radio shows that denounced the U.S. government and military leaders.
There are many falsehoods about Fonda’s behavior being circulated some as outrageous as she beat an American POW to death.
Fonda is a victim of unscrupulous people willing to lie in order to force their agenda on a trusting public. This dishonesty is furthered by the gullibility of Americans willing to believe anything that supports their biases.

Despite frequent bad press, Fonda continues to insist her actions were always in protest of the U.S. government and not soldiers.
'I was the one who would be asked to speak at large anti-war rallies to tell people that the men in uniform were not the enemy, that they did not start the war, that they were, in growing numbers our allies. I knew as much about military law as any layperson. I knew more than most civilians about the realities on the ground for men in combat. I lived and breathed this stuff for two years before I went to North Vietnam. I cared deeply for the men and boys who had been put in harms way. I wanted to stop the k*****g and bring our servicemen home. I was infuriated as I learned just how much our soldiers were being lied to about why we were fighting in Vietnam and I was anguished each time I would be with a young man who was traumatized by his experiences. Some boys shook constantly and were unable to speak above a whisper.' The T***h About My Trip To Hanoi - Jane Fonda
A case can be made she committed treason but many celebrities besides Fonda visited Hanoi. Her mistake was sitting in an AA gun thereby creating an image that has been burned into American consciousness.
Fonda was outraged that after interviewing many soldiers and veterans of the Vietnam war she came to understand Nixon was lying to the American public. And he was. His duplicity lengthened a war and may have cost 25,000 Americans their lives. What’s more Nixon committed treason when he covertly sabotaged Johnson’s attempts to negotiate an end to the war. Nixon’s paranoia about his treason being leaked led to the creation of the Plumbers. We all know how that ended.
Fonda was a young idealist who had the integrity to fight for what she believed in. I admire her for having the courage of her convictions."
