I don't think I would have visited it. On a visit to Poland I stayed in the Visitor Center while the rest of the group toured a concentration camp. My imagination is too intense for those places. Good photos, though.

Thanks for your comments David. I understand your feelings.

Yes, this was my era as well. In college so there were deferments. As a female, the draft didn’t affect me, but the guys certainly were and by extension so were we. So many lives lost and limbs and mental health.
We have visited this former prison as well, and I found it dark and menacing and scary. I don’t understand how they could say prisoners were treated humanely. They weren’t.
It was interesting the Vietnamese called it “The American War”.

Thanks very much for your comments Ellen. The museum actually depicts what a hellish place it was.

I am to some degree enjoying this series. But a trip to Saigon (Now Ho Che Min City) might be a better destination. There are more in the Southern region that would also be good places to visit. I think some Marines could give you suggestions as well. Most of what you have posted is pretty much the same in the Southern part of the country except got the Delta.

Thanks for commenting Gene. We took this trip in 2007 and also traveled to the south which I will post soon. Many images of Hue, Danang, Hoi An and Saigon before we went to Cambodia.

These photos do bring back memories. I was in and out of Vietnam (USAF) during 68-69. The problem is all sides committed attrocities and remind us of the horrors of war. As part of my job I learned of some of the things our side and our allies did too. I wish we were free from that but no way. As they say, War is Hell, always has been and always will be. My main gripe is that we supported a corrupt regime, as evidenced by the number of South Vietnamese officials that escaped to this country with riches obtained from their home country. I feel the Vietnam war was a good example of a political war where decisions were made by politicians rather than the military leaders.
