If you were in a scenario where you were torn between getting a close-up of something in the foreground or getting a scenic shot of more distant stuff, a wide angle lens would be perfect. It's ideal for times when the shot will be about the foreground and the background in equal amounts.

Look up Phil Norton Who shoots Olympus and does wide angle in the Lake District and shore lines of Wales etc... Shoots 7-14 and lately 8-25 which in our FF lingo is equiv. to 14-28 and 16 -50 respectfully. You will gain a new appreciation of wide angle landscapes... ND filter assortment recommended.
