Yesterday (8/28) I uploaded an anaglyph sized to 3072 on the long edge. I expected about 1/3 of the image would be off the screen and require scrolling when "download" was clicked. I think I checked it and found that to be true (not sure, though.) Today I viewed it and clicking download caused it to expand much too big. So in a comment below it I uploaded the image resized to 2048 on the long edge. When I clicked on download I scrolled across the image and it measured 56 inches wide. When I clicked to expand the download it measured 74 inched wide. I haven't changed any settings on my monitor. Something is messed up and I don't know what.
Most, if not all, browsers now-a-days do not require scrolling. Instead, they resize the image to fit your screen. This is true for me with both Chrome and Safari, on a 13.3" monitor. And including the fact that I have the display a bit bigger than normal.
Both the "thumbnail" and download view of your linked topic (from the opening and the additional resized image) behave exactly as I have described.
They're the same size when I download them.
What browser are you using? I'm using Firefox.

First, stop considering 'inches' unless you are physically printing the files.
Your images are pixel-based digital images. When you view them on a pixel-based device, the only applicable issue is how many pixels are in the image (wide and tall) and how many pixels are in the display device, again wide and tall.
As shown in the screen capture of your link above, the image was 3072 pixels wide. If you have a display device that is 3072-pixels wide, you can view the fill width of this image at the 1:1 pixel level details. If you have a smaller device, at the 1:1 pixel level details, you can only see a 'crop' that is as wide as your device.
When you view the image 'full screen', the image is dynamically resized to the smaller side of the device, probably the 'tall' side will fill the screen up and down with margins left on the left and right sides.
With the details in hand, what exactly is your issue?
Remembering, inches have nothing to do with the digital display of pixel-based images. Only pixels matter.

I'm using Microsoft Edge and come to think of it, I noticed Microsoft pushed out an update when I shutdown last night. I'll try a different browser. Thanks.
Problem solved. Thanks, everyone. I'll spare myself the embarrassment of telling what the problem was, other than to say it was user error.

Good one! Similar to the old automotive line that the problem lies with the nut that connects the steering wheel to the seat!
