Three Days in The Adirondacks

Three days of camping in the Adirondacks and I only got one photo that is worth posting. We had three days of rain; but, during an interlude, I was able to get this evening shot of my canoe. Our campsite was right on the lake and this shot is definitely "staged". I used a Nikkor 20mm on a tripod set as low as I could get it comfortably. This is a three shot bracketed photo so that I would get some detail in the shadows without blowing out the sky.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the photo. I think this one is going on the wall.

Several plusses - good eye-leading composition, lots of visual interest and it's beautiful.

Thank you. I had to play around a bit with the tripod until the rocks were right and the proportions worked. Thanks for taking a look.

Wow, you nailed that one Erich both in shooting and in processing. Great DOF, wonderful colors, the overhead cloud reflections IMO make the shot one of a kind

Thank you. Some other members have commented and made some suggestions. One suggestion was that the shoreline is a bit bright and bisects the photo in a way. In this next version, I used the clone stamp set to "darken" and just darkened the line. It does not remove it, because it was actually there in nature; but it does make it more subtle. I think I like it this way. I always value the opinions of members. Do you think the second version is better or would you prefer the original?

Wow, watch me equivocate on this one. I personally still like the first one. The image is yours and only you can make the final decision. Whichever one you like is the one you should print and hang.

That makes sense to me. I like the first shot, because it is the way that I originally saw the scene and wanted it portrayed. Of course I did not really see that line of water by the far trees when I took the shot; but I did see it when it was on the computer and being processed. So, that is the image that I first came up with. It may well be my choice of the two. I do, however, want to use this photo in a club competition, and I know that a judge will nit pick about that bright line. For that reason, I would probably use the second version in competition. As much as it is "my" image, I also want it to score well. For that to happen, you have to take into account how judges look at images. Am I talking myself into one image for the wall and one for the judge....I think that is how it is going to work. The other consideration is that my wife likes the original image, and it is her wall. lol

I was going to comment on this image before I posted my thoughts. But I decided to see what others saw. I was going to say I liked the position of the canoe. The cloud reflections and the overall composition. I never picked up on the white line. So once you corrected that I think I am going with the revision. Subtle change, but effective.
