LR does a great job grabbing the subject.
I think LR has come a long way in their masking. But I still fall back to PS.
Very nice! It is somewhat incredible.

I need to really set down and lean more about PS.
Beautiful picture, white on black is difficult and you did it well

I have been using PS to mask backgrounds and subjects so I can differentially change the brightness to lend emphasis to the subject. We had a birthday party for a 90 year old last weekend and I took a couple hundred shots. I thought since I now have the tools in LR I should get to know them. So I tried the masking. I can mask the subject and brighten it or I can mask the background and darken it, or both.
I found that it works well frequently but not always. There were a couple cases where there was a person in the background that I wanted to be in the background but they were close to the foreground subject I wanted. Choosing to mask the subject allows the program to select just what the subject is, so in those couple of cases I got some extraneous people in my subject mask. I didn't find a way to delete selected parts of a subject mask directly. Maybe I just have to experiment a bit more since LR allows you to modify masks. If I have a mask for a subject, there's a mask panel that shows the mask(s) and on the right I can click on the 3-dot-more symbol and intersect my mask with something else. Right now it looks like I need to intersect it with a brush to brush out parts of the mask. Using the brush with precision is not one of my strengths, so I just went over to PS and did it the old way for the few shots that needed it.
When it works, it appears to work well. I just need to find a way to fine-tune a program generated mask.
Not having to go back and forth to PS saved me a couple hours of postprocessing, even with some false starts during the learning process. I recommend LR users to give the masking a try.
