Prices of XQD and CFE cards are ridiculously high right now. I paid $155 for one 64GB XQD and a pair of 64GB UHS-II SDXC cards. At least with B&H, I didn't pay the $12.40 sales tax. Looking back, I see that I bought a 64GB card for $54 in 2002. I can get a 64GB Sandisk card now for $18. I hope the newer cards come down in less than ten years. I'm certainly not going to stock up on them.

Why do you need an XQD card?
Or a CFE?

Yes, and that must have generated lots of discussion at Nikon. I'd like to know why they decided to require a brand new, expensive card with their new cameras. The advantages must have been great. Most of the reviewers comment on the need for that unusual, expensive card. Nikon should have included one of each with the camera. Of course, you can use the camera with one SD card, but I like having two slots.

They are the fastest cards around. And how fast the camera can write to card is one important factor in the frame rate. And the frame rate sells. But I heard XQD is on its way out CFE is the one now. That is why the refurbished D5 on Nikon website a while back the XQD version was about half the price of the CFE version.

Since my current cameras have only one slot, which I am used to, if I purchased a new camera with two slots, I would simply use the SD slot and ignore the CF. I won't use it simply because it's there.
Overflow? I'll change cards.
JPEG on one RAW on the other? Why? I put them in the same directory on the computer anyway. Just two sets to transfer.
Insurance in case of card failure? Been using one card slot for over 20 years.

If you don't care for frame rate SD card is fine.

I can shoot maybe up to 6 or 7 at a clip, which I rarely do. Mostly ocean waves because they are unpredictable.
But, to each his own.

My Sony G card advertises up to 440MB/sec, and the camera writes 237MB/sec, so it's overkill. I don't see myself doing any "machine gun" shooting, anyway. Apparently, they need a larger package to get the higher speed.

I am saying that the frame rate is a very important feature of the camera. People pay big money to get it. For me I have set my standard over 40 years ago. I want the frame rate to be 5 fps. I don't need more.

Lotsa different features are important to different people...
That's why I stated "to each his own".

Some worry about frame rate, some worry about capacity before "buffering" commences.
For mine, it is what it is.

I worry about it being new and shiny!

I can't remember ever taking more than three shots at once. I'm such a good photographer, and I have lightning reflexes, so one shot is all I need.

I never use my camera on continuous mode but I want it to be capable of 5fps because I want to be sure if I push the button once more I would get another shot. My finger and my reaction only work to about 5fps. I do not simply do a continuous burst and then looking for that perfect shot which perhaps I didn't see when I took it. Oh well I did with the 10,000fps camera to find out what was wrong with a machine. But that for work and the images are only 512x240 and in B&W.
