I don’t know about loosing something - but semi obsoleting about 60 lenses is nothing I want to do - if Nikon actually wants to sell quite a few cameras they should bring out a mirrorless version of their traditional lens mount

That would lose many of the advantages of mirrorless cameras, but there's absolutely no need to obsolete any lenses.
It would be easy enough for Nikon to build an adapter to make full use of any SLR lenses. There are adapters that include focus motors for screw drive AF lenses in other mounts (some of Sony's A-mount to E-mount adapters as well as some third party options) and screw drive AF lenses are also semi obsolete on many Nikon DSLRs.
Due to focusing aids in the viewfinder manually focusing lenses also works far better on mirrorless than on any DSLR - this applies both to legacy lenses from before AF and to the screw drive lenses.

I don't shoot nikon, but I think about the only nikon lenses I can't use on any of my mirrorless systems are mirrorless models (z-mount & v1 mount). I suppose the Nikonos range would be a challenge too, but none of these would work on your DSLR either.

Yes, it's a step in the right direction but it's still a peephole that swivels, and that's in one micro 4/3 camera - should be in the larger formats too....I'm at work now but later I will send a drawing of what I envision.

What do you mean, peephole? It's a camera viewfinder. I like my Lumix GH4's options. The EVF and OLED touch screen both display the exact same information (in five different configurations, including NO information. They automatically turn on according to whether the camera is at your eye or not. OR, you can set it so the EVF is always on, the LCD is always on, or both are dark while using your mobile phone to view. The EVF image is big and bright. You can use the touch screen to focus the camera, WHILE using the EVF to compose. Focus follows your finger swipe. The fully articulating touch screen allows selfies, is great on copy stands and extremely short tripods, and is reasonably sharp when zoomed in to 16X.

I can't complain. I don't like TLRs, anyway.

I’ve never seen discussion of this issue so I thought it was worth raising. When I compose a scene with my D610, for example, I am looking directly at the scene albeit reflected off a mirror and reoriented by a pentaprism. When I compose a scene with my Sony a6000, for example, i am looking at a processed image of the scene. Yet, there seems to be a great rush to mirrorless with people selling D850s to get some latest, greatest mirrorless almost-equivalent. I understand the advantage of lightness, higher frame rates, etc. but are we losing something of the art of photography?
