I was waiting for a friend in my car...

I could have said, for something to happen but...

Anyway.

A woodpecker decided to fly in just as I was getting my camera ready for something (no idea what as I do not any capture of THAT).

Sheer luck for me as I have never seen a woodpecker on the ground before...

Nice catch, wish I knew what it was. Awfully slim and long bill for a woodpecker.

It's not any sort of woodpecker, it is a Hoopoe, not native to any part of the Americas.

Bill is too long for a woodpecker.

A quick glace at the photo made me want to look for a coyote nearby, but a second look told me it wasn't a Road Runner.

Sheer luck is right. It's gotta be really rare if you took this photo in Florida. I looked and the ID is right, Hoopoe. Native to Asia, Africa, Europe. Wonder how it got in Florida. Great shot.

Now there is something really unusual, but still a gorgeous bird, Ronghongo!
