I've got a Nicana carrier which I use on long hikes with good success. The problem is it doesn't have the capacity to carry a bottle of water. Is there one someone could suggest that allows a hiker to carry a camera and a standard water bottle?

What do you define as a "standard" water bottle. My typical gear includes a bottle (collapsible, re-usable) that I bought at the Grand Canyon. It has a carabiner clip attached, and I can use it directly on a camera bag, or by adding another carabiner, can attach it to straps (computer bag, camera bag, etc.). Problem solved.

I always carry a refillable, non-disposable bottle of this sort, so to me, that's my standard.

Then there's <mostly> always a belt loop.

Try wrapping some cord or twine around the bottle, make a "carrier". Allow for a long loop so it can be slung over-shoulder or around the body.

Consider thinking outside the box. Perhaps something like a Camelback water bladder might work. Also do a Google search for fishing vests with pockets for water bottles, too. As soon as you get rid of the word "photo" the price often drops considerably!

Available at EASTERN MOUNTAIN SPORTS. Holds a "standard" 1 liter bottle also available at EMS. It is insulated so you can carry ice water without condensation dripping on your leg. Also doubles as an insulated lens case in the colder months. Attaches to your belt in front, back or sides where ever you prefer all for about $25.00

Ron, thanks for that suggestion. Looks viable. What I didn't want is a tethered appendage banging against my hip. I'm in the late 70's and probably median age of my hiking group. The others are vigorous, and we don't slow down for an hour or two until we hit the mid-point. I suspect I could put an olive in this contraption and really enjoy the trip back.

I bought a CamelBak water bladder and mounted it to the back of my vest. It took about $10-20 in the key accessory aisle at Home Depot to get shackles and key rings to get it to fit.

Check the internet for a military-style canteen with a cover and belt that you use like a belt

You looking to just carry a camera/lens combo & bottle of water? If so, when I go out like this it is with the camera set up on a camera strap & I have a water bottle with a loop on it that was purchased at a bycycle store. I just use a carabiner clip on my belt loop. If using the camera pack depending on the length of the hike, will put one plastic bottle in the side pocket & the one with the clip hanging on the pack.

I bought a Tenba case for camera and put it in a hiking backpack. That way I carry 2 water bottles in the side pockets for 8 - 10 mile hikes in AZ. mountains. I'a also in my 70's and this works great. It allows me to carry and/or store tripod & hiking poles.

Yup, similar sling works best for me as well. If it gets in the way, easy to reposition around my back.

I think I would use one of my larger belt loop enabled soft lens cases mounted on my belt to hold an insulated drink container.
