Got an E-mail from a friend awhile ago warning me to be wary of a scammer that portends to be Norton. Good grief! I'd think the real Norton would be all over that one. Will the real Norton please stand up.

And McAfee, and Microsoft, and Sophos. My spam/malware folders are full of all 4 and more. The scammers are insidious genius. "Norton has detected harmful malware on your computer, click here to eliminate it". Let's say a few million people have Norton installed. Many thousands who receive such an email will fall for it. I'm from an IT security background, now thankfully retired. I could tell stories all day. Look at the email address, if it's not from norton.com, you probably should immediately just DELETE it. Hover mouse over any sentences in an email with hyperlinks and you'll see the actual hyperlink. If it doesn't match the topic, DELETE the email. Having been to many security seminars, including numerous by the FBI, you really don't want to know what is happening out there on the Dark Web.

There is so much crap running in the background. Beginning to believe it is a problem!

I sporadically get emails that my Norton has/will expire/d today....
(Our subscription is paid and I know the auto-renew date.)
I also get a bunch for McAfee, same thing, expiring today.
We don't use McAfee....

BTW - "Norton" (and I imagine McAfee) won't send you an email that says a "virus has been detected on your computer".
Norton on your computer will tell you any status, in a pop-up.
