Tried NX about 16 years ago and decided I liked LR better, but I'm sure NX has changed in the intervening time. I am happy with LR and have not spent time trying other programs.
Two things I like about LR are (1) it handshakes with PS for the tough jobs; (2) it has DAM, which I depend on as my meat memory has started to drop bits.

The current offering from Nikon is NX Studio. I prefer Lightroom by far. NX Studio's feature set is too limited.

I've used, and still use, NX but only for limited applications. The vast majority of my processing is done with Photoshop. I'm not one to fall into the "processor d' jour" category. I'd rather be processing work than learning new software. Additionally, I've programmed so many changes to Ps, I'd hate to toss all that time out to adopt a new application.

I think it depends on how good of a photographer you are or whether you believe yourself to be an artist and have to manipulate through someone else's genus your picture in order to proclaim your assertion you are an artist.
I use Lightroom. I think I got up on the wrong side of the bed, the premise I believe is valid.

I use NX Studio. This is a software that was specifically made to edit Nikon files to extract all of the goodness captured by the Nikon camera in use. I began to use it some time ago when a well known, experienced technician told me that if I really wanted to see the actual colors of my files properly reproduced in a print NX Studio was the editor I wanted to use with my Nikon RAW data.
If the file is to be used for printing that is what he recommends. If the intended use is the Internet then any editor will do. I do not find myself limited when I use NX Studio, It has the adjustments I need.
Once I am done with NX I use Affinity Photo for other adjustments and to convert the file to JPEG.

I use NX Studio, DXO-PL5 and sometimes Adobe Camera Raw and Bridge. Right now most of my processing is done in DXO-PL5 and the NIK Collection version 5.

NX Studio is a great price (free) while Lightroom cost about $120 annually. NX Studio's interface is greatly improved from previous iterations, and it is the place to go (for me) to ensure accurate Nikon color rendering. Lightroom has more bells and whistles, but NX Studio handles most basic photo editing chores well. I am not a fan of subscription software so I tend to buy a product like Affinity or Paintshop Pro or Ultimate and stick with it for at least a few years.

I get value for my $9.99/month plus sales tax = $127.49/year in CT. The value I get exceeds the price because I use LrC and PS regularly. If I were a casual photographer that didn't care about the details in my photos I might have a different outlook.

Years ago, I used the Nikon software, but over a few releases I found it problematic. I switched to Lightroom (classic) @ 10 years ago and have not looked back. Best of luck.

Lightroom has more bells and whistles, which are needed upon occasion. NX Studio does do a better job of rendering colors, in my opinion. It also has a few 'quirks'. NX Studio does take a little getting used to, like everything else! NX Studio is definitely a good tool to have in the 'toolbox'!
