"The driver always remains responsible"..... but was he? Was he paying attention?
I'll drive myself thank you.
Side note: Thinking on the Sci-Fi side, autonomous cars with computer control, connected to towers or satellites, would be an interesting way to eliminate people.....
Just tell the car to crash.
Sounds like a scenario that could have been in
I Robot.
Oh, wait.......
I ain't letting the car drive me. I will drive the car. Maybe fifty years from now it will be common. I will be gone.

I don't trust any car that don't have a mechanical connection to the steering wheel!!
Sad. Apparently the nut behind the wheel is still a necessity.

Seems like BMW has a quick response to just blame the driver.
Take no responsibility for the crash.

Do you get the commercials or PSAs in AZ with the engineer that shows a Tesla hitting a child dummy over and over and telling the viewers that Tesla’s autonomous software is the worst?
Scary.
I think true self-driving cars are a long way off. Vehicles like that are not just dangerous for the drivers, but all other vehicles on the road.
Indi, unfortunately, I'm not one to ask about commercials. I hardly watch TV. I agree with you on the danger issue.

I ain’t riding in a self driving car unless I’m the self driving. I rented a small Chevy SUV while on a trip which was equipped with a lane excursion feature that nudged the steering when getting too close to the edge of the road or the lane marking. It felt a little strange but I got used to it. But turning that steering wheel over to some AI driven mechanics is beyond my comfort level.
I’ll also quit flying when the airlines replace pilots with autonomous pilots.

So, where did the engineers go back to before the invention of the drawing board? 🤷🏼♂️
That doesn't surprise me. They depend on internet connection and many sensors on the car. If there's a failure in a key sensor or the internet connection then an accident could occur.
A friend has a Tesla which is supposed to pull over and stop when the internet connection is lost. But in fast heavy traffic there may not be an opportunity to do that.
I don't think self-driving is nearly ready and to put a test vehicle on a public road, instead of specially designated test roads, is crazy. Someone got paid-off for that decision.
I resist letting my nephew drive me anywhere...
I'm sure not going to let a machine do it.
Who am I going to yell at?
