This Spring I bought a new laptop (Dell) and upgraded from Lightroom 6 to Lightroom Classic. Previously, with the same printer (Canon multifunction TR8620) and my old laptop, I was able to print borderless prints from Lightroom 6 without problems. Yesterday, I tried making some prints of my Grandchildren using Lightroom Classic and the same printer. I was unable to make a borderless print in Lightroom. I was using 8 1/2 x 11 Canon photo paper. I had checked the "Zoom to fit" in Lightroom, on "page setup," which takes you to the menu for the Canon printer, I chose borderless print and selected maximum "extension." I was unable to set the margins in Lightroom at zero. It printed as shown on the screen, which produced a narrow white border around the print. I was able to print borderless by right clicking on the photo in Lightroom and selecting "edit in" and "open as a smart object in Photoshop." This opened the picture in Photoshop and I was able to print borderless with no problem in Photoshop. While this is a workaround, it seems unnecessary. What am I doing wrong in Lightroom?

I still use LR6 with a Canon Pro 100. Not an expert but I can't print 100% borderless from LR6 or the Canon Driver. It requires at least a .21" border. Affinity Photo will do it. I only did once long time ago. Completely borderless is probably going to leave some ink on the inside of your printer where it is not intended to be.
Hope you figure it out. Good luck, Tom
I can only get true "borderless" prints if I print directly from Windows. I occasionally print from LR and always get a slight border, which is OK with me. Haven't tried from PS for a very long time.
I've used Qimage to print for years and among many other advantages it's easy to print borderless using the Canon printer dialog.

Download a copy of Canon Print Studio Pro and your "borderless" troubles are gone.

Jose Rodriguez has a warning about borderless printing.

I once saw a video of a Canon printer that was owned by a guy who loved to print borderless. The slight amount of over-spray per print built up over time and made an absolute gunky mess out of the printer's insides - and cured me of ever wanting to print borderless.

Why can't you simply cut off the white border? Actually, it's a good idea to have a border for handling purposes. Then you're less likely to get finger prints on the photo.
Another thought:
I Frame borderless CVS and find the I loose some of the edges to the frame.
In my copy of LR Classic, the following path gets me to borderless prints with my Canon Pro-10
Print Module/Page Setup (Lower left corner)/Properties (upper right corner)/Additional Features/ see the checkbox for borderless prints.
Note for some Canon papers and other non-canon papers the Pro 10 requires a certain border to enable it to 'grip the paper and move it through the printer.
Give it a try...

Thank you for the excellent suggestion. The Adobe support person I worked with through "Chat" was excellent. He did a remote takeover of my computer. I am not sure what he did differently than I did, but we were able to do a borderless print.
