Anyone using a Go Pro to document encounters in public? I've thought of getting one for that purpose, not because I want to be intrusive, but I've had a couple situations where I wish I had them (mostly around illegal dumping and campfires in the hills surrounding our home). I have mixed feelings about this because I have no interest in confronting anyone and it isn't my job to police the world, but mostly I am curious about ease of use, how obvious is it that you are using one and things like that. Aside from that, what applications have been useful?

Using a cam for documentation is invaluable. GoPro cams are cheap on KEH and other places. eBay as well. GoPro Hero 5 Black is around $110 or so. I would not get a brand new one as if you end up involving Police, it could be seized as evidence or at very least, the memory card.

You can get a harness or a headband for Gopro, but that is very obvious. A GP is not much less obvious than a phone, and either can be camouflaged in a bag or similar with about the same amount of effort. There are many spy cameras of various sorts on the market, hidden in pens or watches or glasses or the like.

Yes, confronting people is not a good idea unless you have a badge and a gun. Many people are armed these days, and apparently getting shot is a daily occurrence.

GoPro cameras are great, but for whatever reason, I find that I use mine very little. I guess I don't have enough "Action" in my life.

Yes it is the hands-free factor as well as the device being small that interests me.

It's hands free when it is running, but so is your phone. GoPro is quite wide. The tightest frame is equavilent to 46mm FF

GoPro is more for videos, must walk around "mounted" if plan to use handfree, etc. Your situation only requires a few snaps unless you plan to comfront someone and want the video. Plus you need to remember to take camera, battery is charged, boot up, etc. Cell phones are usually with people, on in an instant, and have photo or video too.

Im my area the photos you take don't mean a damned thing!! The LEO has to take the photos!!!
Years ago I took photos of illegal dumping with faces and lic.# didn't do any good!!

Confronting people with a badge and a gun is not necessary...Just the gun will do in most cases!😄

Also a good application for all the Legacy 3 MP "Point & Shoot " digital cameras of a few years ago. Can be found @ thrift stores.

I throughly enjoy and get a lot of use from my GoPros. I will often use them when I want quality photos and video but do not want to carry a camera such as when I take my grandsons to an amusement park. They are good in wet areas especially with the underwater case. I use than in my classroom a lot as well to let students video their individual performances, musical scale assignments, etc. I definitely carry one and extra batteries when hiking.
