Can across a post that from the Sonyalpharumers.com website and also on You tube that Sony after 5 long years is going to update the RX10M4 to the RX10MV. This new camera will have the cellphone picture taking quality in the software, no pop up flash, increase the FPS to 24, a newer longer life battery. Nothing was said about the lens if they were going to improve a good lens along with improving the nighttime photo limitations that the RX10M4 had. Sony did say that they will be improving the software and the firmware of the bridge camera. The release of this new camera will be sent out to the camera stores in August and expect to see t he new camera between October and November. No price has been given but I think it should be around the same price as the M4 version but it could be slightly higher. We will just wait and see the factory reviews about this camera if it is going to be worth upgrading or to keep the original M4. Only time will tell.

The M4 already shoots 24fps and I’m guessing they’re not gonna change that excellent Zeiss lens that gets you 600mm equivalent at f/4. I also haven’t heard anything about a new sensor so it sounds like it’s pretty much software/firmware upgrades.

I'm surprised to hear that they would pick the RX10 as the camera to start adding cell phone picture taking capability. I would have guessed it would start with the RX100, a far smaller, and more likely camera to be used in cell phone type picture taking situations. I have the RX100VII and it's small size allows me to take it places I wouldn't consider taking a larger camera.

But perhaps both of these camera lines are going to go this route? And when they do, I certainly hope for the means to turn it off!

The next thing to ponder will be what cell phone capabilities will be supported?

I would imagine you’ll still be able to shoot raw.

What is ‘cell phone picture taking quality’. Will it be able to send it instantly to friends and family or will it just be able to put the pictures from my FF gear to shame just like my wife does now with her iPhone?

The article I read said the lens was going to be the same.
