Merlin and Dragonflies

A Merlin, shot on friday at Iona Beach here in Richmond, BC. This was exciting for me as I have been hoping for a while to see and get a chance to shoot one.
Merlins are small falcons, about the size of a jay.
I watched this guy for a while before I realized that he was feeding on dragonflies. Taking off every five minutes or so, and returning with a fresh one, caught in the air. Must be a great food source, all that insect protein!
He was keeping an eye on me. I couldn't get too close without spooking him, so these are crops.
