Mine needs new batteries, but best flash I ever used. On ‘auto’ it was spot on exposures most of the time

I actually still have a couple of my Metz strobes in storage. My guess they would still work with the battery packs.

Cheers

There were two components of the unit I had that could go bad in storage. Mine had NiCad rechargeable batteries. I've never had one in storage that didn't eventually leak, and even new, they have a limited life compared with newer rechargeable batteries. There are also electrolytic capacitors in these things. They can dry out and go bad over time. But no harm in trying if you have a need.

If you don't understand the question, I assume your answer is no.

That is, does anyone! I started to ask the question differently, but after posting, noticed my question turned into gutter language! Sorry.

At first I thought you were talking about this: "The distinctive appearance of the stielhandgranate-family has led to them being called "potato mashers" in British Army slang, and they remain one of the most easily recognized infantry weapons of the 20th century."

But fortunately, I never use one

Yes to mash foods. No to flash units.

Are you still able to find batteries?

I dont have the need, just waxing nostalgic about the strobes that helped me create many important news and wedding shots early in my long photojournalism career.

I presently own three Paul C. Buff 640WS Einstein strobes with triggers and lithium power pack, plus 12 Godox/Flashpoint strobes: one V350s; two V1; three AD200Pro; two AD300Pro; two AD400Pro; two AD600Pro; plus loads of LED lights, stands, modifiers, triggers , macro flashes, ring flashes and more. I have lighted macro subjects to whole Cathedrals , reception halls, arenas and groups of all sizes.

Cheers and best to you.

Self portrait 1971. Alternate title, portrait of a dirty mirror. Is this recent enough?

I know what you mean. My first experience with large units was when I was in high school. We had a photo club that did the jobs of newspaper and yearbook photographers. We had a large unit, I can't remember the brand but it had a 10# battery pack (black on the bottom, blue on top). It was able to light action clear across the football field. Lots of fun carrying that thing around for two hours! When I was doing weddings, I used Metz 60-1s and found them to be extremely reliable and excellent at producing light without color shift. I also used a Metz 402 which is a little smaller unit but still excellent. I have a closet full of Paul Buff units from the 400 series up to the 1800 series. I don't do a lot of flash work anymore and recently sold off my Nikon SB800s -- 4 of them with an 800 master control unit. I have several Godox units a couple of Nissin units and a couple of smaller Nikon units. I'll never have to buy any more flash!

I like my potatoes a bit lumpy. A mixer if not watched closely will turn them into glue.

I have a masher but he only collects debts for us.
