The Japanese really love their Olympus cameras and are fearlessly loyal to the brand, now OM.

Cheers

Qualify that as only mirrorless.

Sony only sells mirrorless now, having basically abandoned their fixed pellicle-mirror A-mount series.

I suppose for those who get a measure of self worth from their camera brand it means something.

With the camera market so rapidly shrinking, it is always good to know your brand is doing well and may still be around in the future for you with parts and service.

It has nothing to do with any self worth for me , just a practical consideration.

But you are right, many UHHers so closely identify with their chosen brands they cant separate themselves from the brand and even put their brand name in their member names, LOL

Cheers and best to you.

What the graph shows is Canon being able to start delivering the new products. There was never a lack of demand it was supply chain which is showing Canon recovering.
Let's see how things are the first of January 2023.

Sony and OM aren’t having the same supply chain problems as Canon?

Maybe Canon is buying parts from Sony and OM ? Oops sorry we don’t have anymore of those parts available this week, (we used them all in our products.)

I have all I need for my professional and personal work, but there will be some great, major ,and most useful performance advance, and I will sell some of what I have now and move on to better. That is how I roll. I have owned Sony A6500, A7RII, A7RIII, A7III, A9 and currently own A7RIV, A1, A7SIII.

I currently have 13 native E-mount lenses from 10mm to 600mm from Sony, Sigma and Tamron.

My gear are just tools and I will sell and update them to more useful tools if and when needed.

FYI, I was a pro Nikon and Canon user for over 40 years (both brands) before moving to Sony mirrorless in January 2017.

Cheers and best to you all.

Blatantly unprofessional, as usual.

When I visited Japan it called my attention how enthusiastic Japanese were about Olympus cameras. Just a few years ago, before OM Digital Solutions took over the Olympus brand, the Olympus EM-10 Mk II was the most popular selling camera in Japan.
We all know how successful Sony has been but still many photographers buy Canon and Nikon. Call it brand loyalty but the truth is that both brands have made and are making awesome cameras, including mirrorless. I have been using Nikon for more than 50 years and around 2002 I began to use Olympus mirrorless. The small camera, at the time it was the Pen EP-L1, with its small body and interchangeable lenses called my attention and I decided to give it a try. That was just the beginning, today I have two Olympus mirrorless bodies with several lenses made by Olympus and Panasonic.

Will statistics change my mind? The short answer is NO. I couldn't care less who leads the market, I am perfectly happy with what I have and my cameras are not brand new. In a previous post I stated that if a dSLR gives you the images you envision so be it, no need to go mirrorless.
The world will not stop moving because Nikon, Canon or Fuji become Nol 1.

I'm so upset that I'm not going to leave the house today. Tell me the sales in Luxembourg are better.

Canon and Nikon are not reaping what they did not sow in time... The visionaries in the pro community were adopting mirrorless as early as 2012 and nagging the majors to get onboard. Sony figured it out and jumped in the water with Panasonic and Olympus. Fujifilm jumped in before Canon and Nikon, too. Pentax was shoved aside. Leica partnered with Panasonic and hung in there. What a long strange trip it's been!

It is a competitive market, and things will shift around a bit. Most of the brands of the 1960s are either still with us, merged with other brands, or in rare cases, died off. Sony purchased the merged Konica-Minolta camera division. Ricoh bought Pentax. OMD bought Olympus...

We will see various brands rise and fall, and there will be more changes due to the ever increasing volume and pervasiveness of smartphones. There will probably be some fallout due to geopolitical instability. All we know is, this is what happened in the last measured period... same as any economic data! Past performance is not a guarantee of future results...

I never write off anyone. Think back to 1997 and what was happening at Apple, and look where they are now. They went from within 90 days of bankruptcy to a $2.66 Trillion market capitalization (today). I don't expect to hear that sort of story happening with Pentax, or even Nikon, but who knows?

More likely, an outside company will develop the Next Big Thing to replace photography as we know it with, what, holography? Who knows...
