One of my students gave me the camera to “test it out” . It had the scratch when he got it. I tested and returned it to him photos of the images with the scratch flair. He kept it for a few months. He purchased a new RX10m4 and sent me the scratched camera as a gift. I was thrilled with the gift. I just work around the flair. Thanks for your “fix” idea. I’ll wait for the RX10m5 if it ever comes out.
Here are some photos from the scratched RX10m4. These were shot looking at clear blue sky. Note: the flair is black (shadow) when the lens is shaded. The Flair is white if the lens is in full sunlight.
F4.5 63mm lens is shaded
F16 focus at infinity shaded lens
f16 close focus, lens in full sun, 24mm

The fix I had in mind was for a defect further away from center than that.

How badly scratched does a lens have to be to affect its performance?
Like always- it depends.
Old school- using a magnifier and a pin, paint black ink into the scratch in the front lens.
Tis will stop the reflections- most time you won't notice it.
