Incredible Bee shots, Jack!! Wow! I was talking to my brother in Albuquerque today. He say's the humidity from the monsoon season is really making the heat unbearable! I have a hard time sympathizing with him, though from Florida!

Thanks Chief. We who live in the desert forget about humidity until it hits us. You have a movable "house" so I don't feel sorry for you at all

These are just great photos, light is good, shortness that you can cut yourself on. I been trying to get close to these photos. Do you mind letting me/us know what setup you are using. Thanks in advance. Ray from NH

Thanks Ray. My basic set up is a Nikon D7200 crop frame camera, Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro giving me a 35mm equivalent of 135mm. ISO 1000 or 1/1250, 1/1000 shutter priority which usually gives me around f/16 to F/22 which increases DOF somewhat.

Thanks, I can't believe it, I have a D500, Tamaron 90mm macro. I guess I need to practice more. Did you use a tripod? Also, manual focus or autofocus?

I don't use a tripod. Always auto focus. My success rate is between 1:50 to 1:100 on BIFs and 1:10 or so on sitting bees.
