I have been watching this new section since it started and I am inspired to generate some BW. This was my view from the deck this morning at Point Pleasant. I did some post processing in Lightroom, added a sky in PS then back to Lightroom where I accessed Silver Effects Pro and did a straight up conversion. The camera clock is off by an hour. The picture was taken at 6:30 or so. I am her on vacation and don't have access to my Hard drives so all I can do is generate new photos to play with.
Nice shot - I'm surprised there weren't more boats tied up at those piers.
Nicely done.
The added sky doesn't quite match the reflection in the water.

Great lines and patterns!

Thanks Sue. I think that most are rentals.

Thanks Bob. Clearly my bad. I added the sky without considering the total impact. Hopefully a lesson learned.

Thanks Jaymatt. Appreciate you looking
Overall, I like the image / B&W conversion, but I'm not too keen on the sky either. If you scroll your screen and look at the image with most of the sky cropped (scrolled off screen), see what you think of a version where the top margin is moved to just above the height of the trees on our right of the frame. Maybe the cloud that becomes the upper left corner would then be removed to have sky in that corner? Then, the image goes back to all the fine details in the foreground and pier, leading to the homes on shore.
Thanks Paul. The detail in the foreground was the reason for taking the photo. I should have done what you recommend
I'm in favor of cropping out most of the sky also. I'd probably try some selective dodging on a few of the homes, though that might take attention away from the foreground. There's great interest for me in the foreground, and also in some of the smaller stories (should your file size allow cropping, or if you have any close-ups), such as the single heron or egret a few wharves back.
Hi Linda. So glad that you took the time to look. I do have other shots of the ibis that seems to live on the dock and is there all day. I was especially interested in the vertical elements of the dock structure and the way that the 6:30 sun was lighting them. When I get back on my computer I will play around with this picture. It is a 45 MP so cropping should not be an issue.
Very nice shot - looks good in b&w!
