I wanted once in my life to see the "lavandel fields" in full bloom. Best spot is Provence!
Enjoy

Shot at Abbaye cistercienne trappiste Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours (close to Blauvac) This is original LAVANDE...is sold at the distillery ca 60 eur/kg! Its extract (essential oil) is mainly used for cosmetic products (soap, beauty oils, perfume).

Just to get the idea of the "church"...a beautiful building (wich lead me to remember I must visit also abbaye de Sénanque which is not far away from Blauvac!!!)

this is abbaye de Sénanque! Superb LAVANDIN field in full bloom! Much bigger plant, very dense "bouquet"...is sold 10 euros/kg at the distillery (not 60 eur). Essential oil is used for food! Doesn't grow in altitude over 70 m/sea level

You get a precise idea of this site! Really peaceful and wonderful. Air temp° was ca. 42°C at ca 12h30? I was surprised, the field did not smell neither lavande nor lavandin (both do have exactly the same fragrance)

Superb building...nowaday, a community of 5 monks occupies the abbey! The oldest man is 80, the jungest is 48. They have been growing and harvesting "LAVANDIN" (not LAVANDE) since only 1970!

Lavandin somewhere between Sault and Banon...Just to rectify an error: LAVANDE grows in altitude: 700 m over sea level (not 70m)

Again... lavandin + Mont Ventoux (1912 m/sea level ... col des Tempêtes = Storm pass) in the back ground. On the top of this mountain, there no grass, no tree...only white/very light rocks and stones. Seen from far away, one could believe it is snow!

Look closer...the harvester in the back ground...they painted their trailer in "lavande color"! In the few days spent in the fields I saw quasi every trailer is painted "bleu lavande": local tradition

Très beau!
I wondered if the air carries the scent of lavender when the flowers are in bloom.

hmmm...the air doesn't really carry any lavender scent. I had expected to be surrounded in "lavender bath" while shooting in the fields...hélas, I rarely could smell something, except by strong wind blowing from the right direction.
The 2 only cases I could benefit from an incredible strong lovely scent without help from hefty wind, were
1) while shooting a field where 2 men were just harvesting with a little machine (add on the right side of a tractor...able to cut just one raw )
2) while driving 15 km/h following a tractor with its full loaded "lavender blue" trailer on the way to a distillery!

Yes Manglesphoto! the ground is quite rocky...but the surrounding vegetation remains very green, even by this arid and very hot summer! Strange...
Thank You for watching and comment.
