Recent shots, Silver Lake, Merganser and others

Silver Lake, Hwy. 88, CA - Recently I made three trips to Silver Lake to find a Merganser mom and chicks. It was only on the third trip where I got lucky. The drive up to the lake, at around 8,000 feet, takes me two hours each way so happy I finally got some shots of the Mergansers. She has been at the lake with chicks every year for the last several years that I know of. Got other shots each trip up. Gear was Nikon, Z9 as well as D850, and 500PF.

It was certainly worth the trip. The set is fabulous but the first is Best in Set

We used to go up to Silver Lake/Kit Carson Lodge for 2 weeks every summer when our daughter was still at home. We'd take day hikes in the area to various lakes. Just love that area. So much beauty concentrated in such a small area, made accessible by wonderful hiking trails.
I still go up during the Perseid meteor showers if the moon doesn't interfere. Frog Lake at Carson Pass is a great place for this.

The chick in your first image is to die for! We have lots of Mergansers here, but I've never seen a chick.
