We set out to go sailing yesterday, but unfortunate circumstances put that event on hold. Instead, we went to visit a restoration project (sorry…being vague on the details, but there might be a post or two on it at a later date) a few miles away, and found this fellow, owned by one of the craftsmen.
He’s a kestrel falcon, full grown at a few months old, imprinted on the owner, so happy to be in this environment with him. He’ll soon enter training.
All I had was my iPhone 12, and also not much I could do about the cluttered background, but he was a surprisingly cooperative and willing subject. Modest cropping, and a few tweaks in Lightroom.

He is. Owned by a licensed, trained, and experienced falconer. He will be trained to hunt.
I had concerns at first, mostly allayed by the fact that he has imprinted the owner, so is much happier in his presence.
I'm 76 and have only seen one of these beautiful birds in the wild! Even with only seeing one, I'm convinced that they are among the prettiest birds in the US. This is a wonderful closeup and shows him in all of his beauty! Thanks for posting!

I would like to second this posting! I feel the same way so pretty! My first closeupsighting I was shhocked by all the details & froze just taking them all in as best I could then he was gone! I had to go look up what he was immediately! Thanks!
