IMHO - The idea of a gaming computer for photo processing is just that, for photo processing! However, gaming monitors are for video speed, which is not a criteria for still photos.
From my experience, using a gaming laptop as a photo editing device didn't offer any advantages and in fact introduced some problematic issues. As other posts have mentioned, a gaming level GPU is not needed. That is unless you are also going to game between editing your photos. What is important is that you have as much ram as you can afford or install. If you are going to use memory intensive photo editing software like Photoshop then 16 mb is the minimum that you should aim for. You definitely want to look for a laptop with dedicated graphics as opposed to one with integrated graphics which will use some of your system ram to run the display. Also in regards to the screen, choose one that will display the widest percentage of the color spectrum. In general gaming laptops do not focus on providing the widest color range because it is not necessary for the gaming experience. Photo editing is an entirely different situation. You want to see as many colors captured by your camera as possible to make fine adjustments in your images. Whether getting a 4k screen is worth the added expense I have no idea. Maybe if you are also going to be making 4k videos but I'm sure others in the forum can provide more informed opinion on this option.
