Shot tower was built in 1856. This is one of the last remaining shot towers in the US.
Nice photo! What is a "shot tower?"
That is a very nice picture. I know exactly what it is but had no idea it was the last of its kind.

Thanks Dennis, I appreciate your comment!
Thank you for the two thumbs up!
It's one of the last. I've visited another.
Very fascinating how it's done
Shot towers work this way---For mass production of small lead shot, molten lead is poured through a screen at the top of the tower. As the droplets of lead fall, they tumble and become round balls. They fall into water at the bottom of the tower where they are cooled. The size of the holes in the screen determine the "gauge" of the shot. Larger lead balls were made in a mold.

My brother lives in Peosta and I’ve seen the shot tower many times. It never fails to impress. Dubuque has a lot going for it. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

It is all Galileo's fault!
(A myth involving the Tower of Pisa.)
On our trips to NJ from Georgia and NC takes us by the Shot Tower on the New River in Virginia. A nice mid-route rest stop.
