I've recently decided to mess around with the new little and capable amps and dacs in the market today.

Can I build a great little desktop system on the cheap...and out perform my old gear long gone?

So far...with just adding in a tube preamp...yes.

I have two monoblock tube amps otw which I will add to the Klipsch 600M's I picked up on sale for 299.

We'll see...I'll take a few images when it is complete...but it's been fun messing around and reading the charts on some of this gear...crazy specs that actually test out...on some of them.
Finding the gems amongst the crap is half the fun.

You may not even need the tube preamp - you may find the DAC can drive the amps directly. Of course if you want that “tube sound”…

I have an older Sony UDA-1 as my desktop integrated...dac...preamp and amp combo...but it's long in the tooth.

I have stayed away from component setups until now because there is already a birds nest of cables from computer and accessories....noise and ground problem havens already.

But just adding in a new tube preamp...it was a big difference in soundstage...you get used to your gear.

It's just for kicks...

I have contemplated going whole hog back in...throw around some serious coin.
But I recognize my ears aren't worth the coin anymore...

So I will play with the desktop fun system for just that...fun.

I did buy this just last night on a whim...I saw a video on it from a reviewer with nice analytical gear and know how...it actually specced above what was stated.... a rarity...on sale for 130 bucks...who cares at that price?

There is another model around the same price with 2 more tubes...but that weighs 8 pounds...and this one weighs 14. When in doubt...go with the weight...lol...opposite of photography.

Glad you’re enjoying the trip. Personally, I’m really into tubes - I like the sonic characteristics. I had to look up the 6N3 - that’s a tube I wasn’t familiar with. Post some images of your system when you get it set up.
