Greetings,
We have been to a number of places in Mexico and have had a pleasurable time always. If I have to pick a favorite location, I would say the Yucatan Peninsula. Here a few photos from the Uxmal ruins located near the eastern tip of the peninsula close to Merida and Progresso.
Uxmal is a friendlier and calmer place compared to other ruin sites. Most of the others give impression of a more warlike population, but that just may be me. I do really like this place.
The Mayan's occupation of the hilly region began in 600 to 800 AD. The site was abandoned about 1460. The Great Pyramid is listed at 90 feet high and the Soothsayer’s is the tallest structure at 115 feet high.
The Nunnery is a quadrangle of rectangular buildings around a courtyard having a total of 74 rooms. It may be mis-named as it probably was used for administration functions.
Photo #9 shows people climbing the impossibly steep stairs to the Soothsayer’s Pyramid's temple at top. It was difficult going. I believe climbing has been banned today.
Photo #10 is taken from the top of the Soothsayer Pyramid. The Great Pyramid may be the large structure at right rear in photo.
Imagine yourself at this location when you browse the photos

Thanks, heard about it but never seen it. Years ago and far away.
Thanks for checking this out.
