I was out shooting a cactus bud that should open tonight if the approaching storm doesn't destroy it and decided to see how the noise would look at higher ISO settings. All 3 were shot at f/11. The 1st was shot at ISO 1600, 1/250; the 2nd ISO 12,800, 1/2000; & the 3rd ISO 25,600, 1/1000. The only editing was cropping to about 1/3 of the original frame. The 3rd shot was taken about 50 minutes after the 1st two. If you compare the graininess & detail of the background in all 3, even the 25,600 shot is acceptable.
Nice demo! The higher ISOs are acceptable.

Nice demo. I wish I could see downloads. I imagine that would show more noise at higher ISO settings. Of course ISO noise is a hard critter to define and some people have more sensitivity to it than others. And magnification has a large effect. "Acceptable" is another hard critter to define!!
I thought I had checked the store original box. Apparently not. Here are the full frame originals. The shots I originally posted are probably closer to 25% of the original frame.
Very nice photos and exhibit. Did you use histogram in preparation and ETTR?

No to both. These were exposed at the meter setting for the different ISO's. I very seldom use the histogram & even less worry about ETTR.
