I will start the challenge with time pieces, way back thousands of years ago time was told by sundials and different water devices and then we got around to clocks and in 1505 Peter Henlein created the first pocket watch and it wasn't until 1810 that Abraham Louis Breguet created a wristwatch for the Queen of Naples, this caught on with the ladies but it took a fare while before men started wearing them. We seem to have come a long way since then.
Would be very interested to see your timepieces and the story behind them, if any.

I think I kept one working watch with the battery removed, and pitched the rest when I started carrying an iPhone in 2009.

Nice photos. They make me want to go listen to Pink Floyd and Chambers Brothers records.

Jim I remember you telling me that story, and good for you, I may have many clocks and watches but I still have no idea what time it is, I hate being ruled by the clock

Thanks burkphoto, it's the mechanism of the watch and clock that I admire not the time it tells, yep Pink Floyd does it for me any time of the day or night

There was a "time" when every town had a City Hall or bank or building with a clock on it for all to see (and hear). The mill clock marked the sound of shift change, meal time etc.

This one still works

This one doesn't - but restoration is underway. It was the crowning touch to a mill complex that years ago specialized in tanning leather, making textiles etc. Many immigrants (esp. French and Irish) and their children worked in the mills.

Very nice start, Simon, and thanks for hosting what could turn out to be a challenge for all time.

I got this one from the Penn & Sword Society when I graduated from Omaha University and was Commisioned into the US Air Force. After Mom and Dee pinned on my brown bars I was awarded this cronograph.

Though it no longer keeps the correct time I still cherish it. Maybe you could fix it.

Good to see your town clocks still working and also good to hear about the last one being restored, a costly exercise
