Not the best photos I've ever posted, but interesting nevertheless!
More, technically better photos, with more time for test shots coming up soon
I hope you like!

Nice shots

Very nice photos Chief but I am reminded of my own photos at the beach when I try shots like yours on birds. I have a hard time getting a good exposure. Of Cours it is me and nothing to do with the camera except for the way I set the exposure. It can be tough. Your very last shot is remarkable with the bird holding the food in its mouth and the exposure seems in the right direction. I sure wish I could give any advice but then I would have to try it myself.

Composition and subject matter is spot on.

Thanks, Dennis. This was a surprise BIF opportunity without any chance to make any adjustments. I didn't even know that he had the little bird until I reviewed them on the LCD. I've been told to expose for the brightest object and go from there. That hasn't helped me much and without the capability or the desire to go into extensive post processing, I've just decided to go with the flow. If I can't salvage it I just delete it and go on. I wouldn't have posted these normally but I thought the content was worth it, as I, and a lot of other people would not have seen it otherwise.

I completely agree with you on posting the photos. It is/was a rare opportunity to see the heron eat another bird. I did not know such things happened but of course never gave it much thought after seeing them catch fish. I suspect next time you will want to change the exposure control to at least a minus 1 whole stop. That is where I would start anyway. Let's hope there will be a next time. At least you know where the heron lives.

Thanks again, Dennis. As I said this was a surprise BIF opportunity that lasted a couple seconds, not long enough to make any adjustments. But if this had been a static situation, then yes, I would have started with about minus one EC and went from there! I have to keep telling myself there will be a next time, if not, it would be all too easy to just stay in bed and enjoy the A/C

Yep. And someone else lived another day! The way the world works! Harsh, but it works!
Thanks, Hereford.
