I’m sorry for the loss of your camera.

The lesson learned is never allow the Grill to use your good camera.

Me to.....it was an easy to use travel camera that had served me well. You're right...grillen and drinking don't mix well with picture taking....

I’m wearing my black suit to let you know I too am mourning your loss. A few years ago I had a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 Date. It was my go to camera because it was so light. I had propped it up while I tied my shoes. My hand got caught in the strap and SMASH! I know the feeling you now have. So I bought a replacement and I kept my original for parts.
I believe your camera was a G5X. Pick up up nut don’t get rid of the broken one. If you want you can also place your camera in an acrylic museum box for safe keeping.

I know there’s nothing anyone can say to make things better at a time like this. When people slip off into the great beyond, supposedly the blackness creeps in from the perimeter, spreading until the center is gone. Apparently when cameras die, the black streak starts in the middle and spreads outward.

To bad the last thing it saw couldn’t have been your face giving it comfort. Also too bad it couldn’t have died in its sleep, turn it off peacefully and it never turned on again.

Sunday, May 29, 2022…during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. It was a beautiful sunny day, sitting on the patio, the grill was going well, laughing and photographing friends. Put the camera down on the table and got up to refresh my drink…and then I heard the sound, that horrible “clunk/thud” sound....the sound you never want to hear! It took me a moment to compose myself, mutter something indecent, and get over the shock of seeing the camera in pieces on the concrete surface. Yikes, it wasn’t my fault…who me?…..the travel camera had somehow jump off the table and committed suicide…dead and useless on impact. Later, the Canon Customer Service performed the autopsy and said it suffered external and internal injuries and the damaged was beyond repair....as I had suspected. They abruptly returned the camera. Here’s the photo proof. The last picture is the camera's capabilities after the fall.
BTW, I’m finally over the shock and able to post these horrible photos with some humor.....no whining I just don't know what to do with this dead body....?

Let's LOL.....only humorous sympathetic comments...please

Enlarge the Last picture the camera took, mount it in a waterproof photo box with the picture facing one side and the camera remains facing the other. Place the frame under your grill top to show the photograph first to new visitors as you show off the grill. Then rotate and place the frame on a secure surface as a conversation starter. Make up some Good stories to tell!

I have this strange habit. My friends and coworkers say I have some kinda OCD issue. I never place my camera on a table when there are festivities ongoing. There was a time when I covered many weddings, parties, raucous gatherings and conventions, etc. and I always kept my gear on the floor when I was resting between shots.

I always had to explain that it is not a matterof OCD but simple physics. Gravity! Things fall down, they don't
fall up!

OK, the gear can be kicked or stepped upon but I got that covered. I always found a low-trafficked area and blocked it off with heavy furniture!

Hey Scruples....it was a G5X. nice......now it's an R.I.P. version-1.....and won't be replaced. (Not to sad since I have an X100V to step-up in it's place).

Thanks bikinkawboy...A better picture would have been the priceless range of expressions on everyone's face when they saw the fall happen I was speechless...and could only say, "oh sh**"

Did the camera at least record its final journey? Its last act? The last finger to the man?
