Not bad at all, congratulations on a fun trip. To get more shooting time don't have a final destination and just stop as often and for as long as you want. Might be surprised and only end up a few hundred miles from home.

I know what you mean. Even as I drive around here, stopping isn't always an option. The other day, I saw a huge piece of construction equipment parked on a slight incline right next to the road. Fortunately, the Safety Officer had taken steps to secure that 20-ton machine. He put a rock behind one of the tires.

Recently I took a three-week vacation and drove from home in PA to Memphis, across to St. Joseph TN, to Charleston SC. After a week in Charleston drove back to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherokee, NC, and back to PA that way. This trip put a little over 4000 miles on the car. While I saw some nice waterfalls and scenery, the time in the car took away from the time I could shoot. I think in the future I will narrow my destinations down a bit and spend more quality time in a smaller geographical area.

Three years ago, I was on a 19 day trip from NW PA through Cleveland, Milwaukee, Iowa to South Dakota and back by similar routing. I got many photos while moving along the hiways and roadwayssimply bu having my wife do the driving while I relaxed and took photos out the windows of the moving car.Of course if something was especially interesting or would require more than a photo or two, I'd have her stop so I obtained mor and varied angle shots. It worked out well.

Some time in the Smokey Mountains could provide many photo ops.
