Do you count your camera bag as a Personal item under the seat in front of you ? I can use my sling purse inside as a cushion for my longer lens inside my bag so that won't count as a personal item. The camera bag is 10/10 14. I do have another carry-on. Taking Fuji XT3 18/55 and 55/200 to Norway. Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes, my camera bag is a "personal" item for me, in addition to my one carry-on.
If I had a pocketbook (personal item) AND my camera bag, that would be two personal items.

"A" personal item (one) fits under the seat, a carry-on goes in the overhead.

But each airline defines their own rules. Check with the airline.

Agree 100%. I don't carry a purse, but I do carry a computer. So, I purchased a ThinkTank Airport Essentials that provides room for both camera, lenses, cables, filter, chargers, etc. as well as the same for my computer, and fits under the seat in front of me. (There's a surprising amount of room in it!). I like to travel light, so I have a roller suitcase that fits in the overhead and my AE as my "personal item."

Be aware that if you do any intra-Europe air travel (on tickets separate from your US-Europe booking), the baggage allowances are VERY much more restrictive.

Cabin baggage can be tiny, and one item means one item especially on the budget airlines, and hold baggage is usually limited to one case of 44lbs, unless you pay (a lot) extra.

When we travel overseas, I carry a medium sized camera bag and a laptop on the plane. My wife carries a small piece of luggage and a large purse. We've never had any problems. The camera bag and luggage go in the overhead, and the laptop and purse go under the seat. You can be sure that I have my eye on the camera bag as soon as the overheads are opened up. One potential problem we've seen is that some flights within Europe are jam packed with people, and they run out of room in the overhead bins. It has never affected us, but we've seen some people have to check their carry on bags.

When packing for a flight, I always place my camera bag inside of my regular carry on bag. The fewer separate pieces of luggage I need to carry, the better.

You must have a small camera and bag. Maybe I'll have to pare down. I am traveling alone.

Some European airlines and airports are very strict. We were traveling once with a small 5”x7”x10” bag and a purse and they would not allow them both as carry on. Our solution was to get a garbage bag from the janitor and put them both in the garbage bag to make one carry on. As stupid as this was, it worked.

Your particular airline is the ONLY one who can correctly answer your question, why not call them.

Yes. It has been to Ireland (2x), Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Mexico as my personal item with no problem whatsoever. Occasionally it will have to be checked at the gate on regional flights, but other than that no issues.
