I buy photo paper from Red River paper. 32 lb matte for my personal family photo album, scrapbook, double sided matte for calendars, various glossy papers for cards and special prints. have always had good results, good packaging for shipment, good service, and when severe weather shut down their facility, they were proactive in keeping me informed as to when my order would ship.

I have Epson and Canon printers and wanted to be able to use the same paper in both. After reading the rave reviews here on UHH in the "Printers and Color Printing Forum", I went with Red River Paper. The quality is exceptional and they have a very wide variety of finishes. My shipments come in heavier corrugated boxes with a lot of bubble wrap around sturdy boxes of paper, so no bent corners. They are reasonably priced and ship very quickly. They create profiles for a lot of different printers and make them available for free on their website. I checked them for the papers I use against the ones I built with an X-Rite i1 Studio and found them to be virtually identical. They even recommend the best papers for your printer on their website. They are the real deal.

Knowing that you have the best paper is half the battle.
The other half is letting a viewer, who wouldn't know the difference between Office Depot paper and paper from Canon or Epson, appreciate the difference.

We spend a lot of our time on UHH talking about cameras and glass that will give us the best photos possible. Why not honor our work with the best prints we can make?

I use Red River as well. I’ve had better results than any paper I’ve used. They even provide a profile for you in regards to your brand of printer. Great choice of papers, excellent customer service.

I see so many people use Red River papers for printing but I question the cost vs other papers. For the causal printing, family photos etc. I can’t see the high cost difference. I just looked up red river glossy 10.4 mil 4x6, $22 for 100 sheets. Canon glossy 4x6 on B&H is $23 for 400 sheets. I’ve always gotten good results from canon papers on my Pro-100.

I find that Hewlett Packard's presentation paper (matte finish) works just fine for my photos. I buy what I can find for a reasonably inexpensive price. At Nebraska Furniture Mart in Kansas City, 50 sheets of 8.5" x 11" is about $12. It seems to work just fine; I can't see any noticeable differences from the more expensive papers.

Perhaps if you are professionally shooting and charging a customer top-dollar, then you might want to use a more expensive paper. The everyday store bought photograph papers seem to be about the same.
