Yesterday Canon announced two new lenses for their R-series mirrorless cameras:
- RF 24mm f/1.8 IS STM Macro
- RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM
Both are full frame capable, but of course will fit and work fine on the new APS-C R7 and R10, as well.
The 24mm is said to have 5.5 stops worth of image stabilization (6.5 stops on camera with IBIS), can focus as close as 5.5 in. (0.5X magnification), uses a 9-bladed aperture, 52mm filters, weighs a little over 1/2 lb. and will sell for $599. On an APS-C camera the 24mm will act like a slightly wide normal lens... approx. equiv. to 38mm on full frame.
The 15-30mm claims 5 stops worth of images stabilization (7 stops on camera with IBIS), focuses almost to 5 in. (0.5X magnification), uses a 7-bladed aperture, 67mm filters, weighs a little less than 1 lb. and will sell for $549. On an APS-C camera the 15-30mm will act like a moderate wide to normal lens... approx. equiv. to 24-48mm on full frame.
This brings the total number of Canon RF and RF-S lenses to 31, ranging from 14mm to 1200mm (including the extenders and 5.2mm dual fisheye).
- RF 5.2mm f/2.8 L Dual Fisheye 3D VR ($1999)
- RF 14-35mm f/4 L IS USM ($1649)

My "Next Lens" RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM is still on back-order.
Do you know whether qnyone like Sigma or Tamron are planning to make lenses for Canon's new crop sensor cameras?

You’ll be waiting a LONG time. You may be able to physically mount it, but you can’t properly fix the flange distance issue and maintain the full focusing range.
Why is no one producing secondary lenses for Canon crop sensor? It would seem as popular as the new cameras are that it would be a no brainer.

That is an amazing diversity and range of lenses, many unique to the industry.
I didn't realize the amount of RF lenses available now.
And they pretty much have all focal lengths covered already.
Quite nice for those into the EOS environment.
And remember that ALL EF/EF-S are 100% compatible so that adds a huge range of additional lenses.
Then if desiring manual lenses you can now use all the FD, FL, R and M39 Canon lenses without glass in the adapter to get infinity.
But the sweet thing is the EF and EF-S are all compatible and work as designed which no one else can claim such backwards compatibility.

Probably because the R mount crop camera was only just announced.
