Yep.
Not worth making dinosaurs for the few left alive clinging to them.

There was a media article regarding Nikon's withdrawal of SLR development. This media article is only speculation and Nikon has made no announcement in this regards. Nikon is continuing the production, sales and service of digital SLR. Nikon appreciate your continuous support.

Imagine there were no mirrors
It's easy if you try
No DSLRs to slow us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the photographers happy everyday

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

The media article came from Nikkei in Japan and only mentions that Nikon will no longer pursue future development of DSLRs. The Nikon "rebuttal" really only says that they will continue to produce, sell and service DSLRs without mentioning future development. It isn't a denial of what was actually said. Yes, they still sell DSLRs such as the D6, D850, D7500 and even the D610. They may even still be manufacturing them, but for how long? I don't see how they can support an older line of cameras whose sales are dropping like a rock when they can put their resources into mirrorless cameras.

For all the equipment-centric members on here, I just researched what rumors are floating around out there. The key I've seen is some mention production, some mention development. These are two different areas. One can cease development and still produce.

Now, until Nikon makes an official announcement, I'll let you equipment jockeys worry about it.

If you read the actual announcements you will find that Nikon and Canon are reducing the number of models and the developing of new DSLR cameras and increasing the R&D+production of mirrorless. This is due to the market and the fact that the current development of cameras favors mirrorless.

They are not stopping the development or production of DSLRs, they are reducing them.

Of course, you have to read the announcements and be capable of understanding the language.

As a matter of interest is Canon introduced a new FD mount camera after the EOS system was well established. The T60.
Actually made by Cosina I believe and was intended for some less developed areas of the world.
So one never knows.

The last Nikon DSLR that I know of is the d780 which is about 2 now. It's time they came out with something else IF they are going to. I've noticed that there are fewer and fewer bridge and smaller DSLR since smart phones have come out with decent cameras.
As for me I'm on the wrong side of eighty, have a good fx Nikon with a couple good lens and a decent dx Nikon and an old bridge that I have a lot of fun with. I have no intention of giving up any of it, so I am a dinosaur. I just checked on Amazon to see if they were still available and they are and so is a wireless remote control for a dinosaur. I hope my wife doesn't see that or I'm in trouble.
Nikon and me are a lot alike. never have been near the front of the line with anything new. So I feel right a home.

Still peddling D610s ?!? They must have dumptruck full left over. I read that SLRs make great artificial reefs. The fish really like looking at themselves in the mirrors.

I personally think that an extensive discussion of orbital mechanics would make everyone here smarter.
