Cloning tool not working in Lightroom

When I try to clone (tool paints area white), the area I select to replace the original area does not appear, but rather some other area!  Feather is at ZERO, opacity at 100%.  How to fix this problem?

You'll probably get more effective help by opening a technical support chat with Adobe.

That's not how Lr's clone tool works. What do you mean by the original area? You select what you want to be cloned over and Lr finds what it thinks is a suitable patch. If you don't like that patch you can move the pick-up area by clicking and holding then dragging to the area that you do want.

Let's say the original area is X and I want to replace with Y. I follow what LR thinks is a suitable patch. Z appears!

Just discovered the problem. Was on feathering, NOT cloning!

What version of LR? I still use LR6 & the tool is hit or miss. Sometimes the healing option is better, but AP works better as would PS I would think. If your using the newest updated LR Classic, I would of guessed it would work pretty good by now.

LR Classic 11.4.1. Cloning tool works well. It was operator error!

Why is the first step always to blame the manufacturer in this case adobe?

How do you know that is the case? Someone could have tried to remedy the problem and not found a solution.
Or, maybe everyone isn't as smart and talented as you are.
