The Art Of The Fisheye….No Viewfinder Required

I recently rewatched a video, The Art of the Fisheye, by Gene Ho. He runs a wedding photography business. He demonstrated how he uses 1-2 cameras at a time with different fisheye lens attached.

One technique he uses is to start with the camera on or near the ground. He then rotates the camera with the lens going upwards for 5 exposures. No viewfinder is used. This will provide unique angles.

I took the attached with a similar technique, doing 4-5 exposures at a time.

I used a Nikon 10.5/2.8 fisheye lens on a Nikon D7500. Most or all were at f/11.

These were taken on the nature path near our new home in Georgia.

These are a nice set and using a Fisheye Lens does present some interesting angles.

If I may offer a gentle critique. When photographing a group of people, you will have everyone present. However, there is distortion. Do not position women at the ends because you will hear about it for many years to come.

What's the point with his technique? I missed it.

I must not have explained this very well. Starting with the camera on or near the ground, for instance, and then rotating it, like a wheel, will provide 5 different views. One could also start up high and then go down, for 5 shots. Or even do it laterally, side to side. Not needing to use a viewfinder can provide unique results.
