Many Thanks to all of you who have responded to my questions to do with IR. Thinking for starters, I'll invest in a new Canon mirrorless with the full spectrum conversion already installed.

Help me out here which Mirrorless are you talking about and are you saying I should have not had my 50D converted to IR if I am going to buy an R7?
Thanks

Not saying that at all, just saying I'm looking into what other features some of the new mirrorless cameras have to offer that would make it an ideal choice for me.

Are you thinking an already converted Canon from the likes of LifePixel? If so, recommend you price a refurb from Canon’s website, then get a conversion estimate from LifePixel. Good luck!

Whatever camera you get make sure you can do an in camera white balance which is critical for infrared. There are Canon and Nikon cameras that can’t do an in camera white balance so it has to be done on a computer. I’d rather do it in camera. The 2 companies I have used for conversion are Kolarivision and Lifepixel. Get their recommendations.

With my D70, the recommendation is to use green grass to set the WB.

Easiest is to set a custom white balance. Check your camera manual on how to do that. If you're shooting in raw, you can also set it in post. Depending on software being used, you may also have to set an IR profile.

I saw an ad for one (that I think offered IR) in a 6 or 7 month old Rob Report magazine.

If you by chance happen to see an add or perhaps one for sale, please let me know.

Yes. I shoot raw and do it in post but you should use the manufacturer’s software, (since mine is Panasonic I use SilkyPix), to set white balance then export a TIFF to Lightroom.

I used a Adobe profile generator to create the profile, then saved the profile in my computer's Adobe profile folder. After which, it's available in PSE's Camera Raw when I load an IR image. As soon as I apply the camera specific IR profile, I open the image in the PSE editor from camera raw, create a duplicate layer, and invert it. Easy peasy.

Canon's DPP 4 supports, as well
