I think that my elderly DVD player is on it's last legs and am contemplating buying a new one. There are so many choices out there and they offer features that I haven't a clue as to what they are. I play mainly DVD movies, no Blue Ray. Any suggestions as to what is the easiest to use and the most reliable brand to choose?

2Dragons,
Rather than buy a new one with features you may never use, go buy a used one at your local Goodwill store. You can often find great bargains there on used electronics. You should be able to find one that is easy to use with the features you want and at a good price too!

I have had my Samsung dvd read write for years, if I were to have to replace it I would probably see if I could but a dvd R/W - blu ray player combo if not not available then just the dvd R/W
DVD Players and Blue-Ray Disk players are coming on the shelves at phenomenally low prices. You can get any good working one from any store like BJs, Costco, Best Buy or PC Richards. When the player has extra features like combing your hair you can expect to pay more.
Just buy one for what you need not to empty your wallet.

That a better idea than I had.
Is this for your PC or for your TV? DVD players at Walmart and Best Buy are around $30 since you don't need BluRay.
When our old DVD player died I just bought an LG for about $40 at Best Buy.
Works perfectly.
We don't use Blue-Ray either.
Agree with Daryl above (I test electronics at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore). If you do not need blue tooth and other "smart" features, get a used dvd player at Goodwill or a ReStore, s/b under $10 or so..... and you're helping a good cause while keeping stuff out of the landfill.

I would recommend a region-free Blu-Ray player. With region-free, you're not limited to USA-only movies. Blu-Ray gives you better quality, and sometimes, Blu-Ray DVDs are less expensive.
As for the best brand, read reviews and comparisons. In my whole life, I've never gotten stuck with bad electronics. Maybe I've just been lucky, but modern electronics seem to be very durable. Reading revierws on Amazon can be a waste of time. No matter what it is, some people say it broke after one day.
Refurb is the way to go. I have 3 refurb Sony blue-ray players in different rooms. I don’t play blue-ray but they seem to make regular dvds look better. They were about $40 a couple years ago.

Or at yard sales. You will often find them in the 10.00 to 15.00 range. People stream movies today and these are readily available on the resell market. Go to market place on Face Book and key in DVD players. More than likely you will get 20 or so hits.
I gave away all of my dvd's...don't need dvd's anymore...it's all online now.
Apropos of nothing, about a year ago, I had to replace the tuner/amp for our big screen tv setup and never got around to reconnecting the Blu-ray DVD player. Given access to YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, AppleTV, Britbox, etc. I haven’t missed it.
