I'm a scientist, as well, though my degree is in Chemistry, from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Right out of school, I worked for the US Bureau of Reclamation on the construction of Cachuma Dam, on the Santa Ynez River, water supply for the City of Santa Barbara. At the time, it was the longest earth-fill dam in the world. That was for a couple of years, followed by a couple more as Chemist on the staff of UCLA Engineering Research. I then spent 20 years at Products Research and Chemical Corporation, in Burbank, California, starting as Research Chemist and Group Leader, then Head of Technical Methods and Standards, and ending as Assistant to the President and CEO. After that, a number of different things, mostly in technical sales.
I haven't checked on the tree here since we planted it - along with several others doing the same. I'm sure I could not find the specific tree now, anyway. When we planted it, the seedling was about a foot tall, as I recall.
