Got together with my sister for breakfast in our home town of Fort Dodge Iowa. Neither one of us had been there in a long time. I am always looking for non-chain places to eat. One by the name of TC Mae's Too came up on my on line search. So I said let's go there. They had grits on the menu and you can't usually get them here in Iowa. So we went. This was a genuine dive bar. 9am and people are at the bar drinking beer. Tuns out these were better than some of the grits I had in the South. I got a big bowl of grits 2 eggs and toast for $6.95. My sister got leaded hash browns. You could tell the sausage gravy was homemade and did not come off the food truck. The owner was friendly and we chatted with him. Dives can be great places to eat!
Thanks for your comments The owner is from Alabama so maybe that is where he learned to make his grits.
Another thing on the menu that I don't see around here are chicken gizzards. Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm until 2am. Do you like them?
They also serve Conecuh sausage based out of Alabama. You can't get that here either. My sister had sausage gravy on her hash browns I know that was better than most sausage gravies that I have had.

I haven't had any for a while, cut them on the outside and turn inside out, tender meat, have chicken livers more often

Jill, chicken gizzards are too tough and chewy for me. I do like chicken livers if they are cooked right. My husband loved gizzards and livers and strongly discouraged my telling anyone I didn't like sausage. We were in the sausage business for 26 years. killed the hogs, even put the hams and tenderloins in out "whole hog, country sausage" and sold tons of it over 5 states. We also had a meat market where we killed our own cattle hogs goats....goat liver is far better than any chicken liver. I could tell a lot of things about meats that most would never believe. LOL
