On my yesterday morning hike I stumbled upon a couple of jackrabbits. That's rare around here.

I googled it. Pretty much the same. Thanks for pointing that out, I learned something new again.

I remember as a kid back in the '50's there was a plague of Jr s in Oregon up around Vale , Jamison area. You could go out at night in the pickup lights looked as though the ground was moving. They could eat the bottom off of a haystack, it would tip over and they would finish it off. They ate my uncle off his ranch, couldn't kill em off fast enough. Now days not so many . Nice shots.

Jackrabbits are special to me. When growing up they were so plentiful in south central Nebraska. Now there are none. It only took a few years with people shooting at night from the back of a pickup truck with spotlights to slaughter all the breeding adults.

Good pictures.

Why were people out to eliminate jack rabbits?

Old fart story. While in basic training at Lackland AFB in 1962 we were marching to somewhere when a jack rabbit jumped out of the brush, ran a few yards and turned back to look at us. Someone in the ranks yelled, "Look! A deer!" If memory serves correctly the TI found that humorous enough that nothing was done about talking in formation.
