I was on the roof of my apartment building on the East River about 40 blocks north of the barges. The Ed Koch Bridge at 59th St. was directly in line with the blossoms, which at first I thought was going to make it difficult to get some decent shots. Not so, I discovered this morning when I started processing.
I have probably two dozen or more shots like the first, which is typical of fireworks. With the other two, I tried for a different look.
There was a Southwest breeze pushing the smoke over Roosevelt Island and at times obscuring some of the display. It also made for some interesting colors. The light reflected on the river and the river traffic helped me decide to show these.
On the lower right, you can see the cars parked on the southbound FDR to view the fireworks.
Fantastic shots. What lens and settings did you use?

ISO 320, 1/8, f5.6. The lens is a Sigma 100–400. 160 mm for the two closer shots, and 110 mm for the wider shot.
Very nicely done, daldds.

Great shots! The bridge adds a lot!
But “The Ed Koch Bridge”??? Does anyone really call it that?😳 It’ll always be the “59th Street Bridge” to me😊
Excellent! I recorded the show. I thought it was funny that the fireworks were preceded by a bunch of singers I didn't know. Bring back Guy Lombardo!
Nice shots, despite the smoke.
I wonder why fireworks manufacturers haven’t come up with a smokeless explosive.
Stan
The surroundings made this set unique. Well done Sir.

Just trying to show that I'm paying attention. I knew it when, also.
I do like your presentation of NYC in all its phases, David!
