http://www.africantravelinc.com/once-in-a-lifetime-africa-route-a/I thank you for sharing your experience in Africa. I know how expensive it is to join a National Geographic expedition however, to me is worth every penny. Congratulations, this is a dream unfulfilled by many of us due to lack of funds. My congratulations to you for taking such a magnificent trip.
I have been to Kenya Photo Shoot for 10% of that and it was wonderful and truely a once in a life time experience. If you go on trip like your, you must have a pile of expendable funds..but not me.

If he pays me 5 grand more to be with him, I'll add two extra days.
The real joke is if you had 60 grand to spend, you could take your whole family and spend a couple of months at the same parks and obtain the same images you would with this guy. Whoever he is.

I completely agree.

Thank you. The truth is I have seen and worked with these people in action. They have two arms and two legs just as you and I. The things you might not realize is that National Geographic photographers take literally thousands of images to get the half dozen shots you see in an article.
I see images posted here by some of the members that are every bit as good as those published by N.G. If I were to send one of the members on a shoot, they would produce something N.G. can publish. This is not to say the photographers that shoot for N.G. are average shooters, because they aren't. Many of them are skilled technicians at what they do. Over 90 percent of N.G. shots are set up in advance or boundaries and limits have been established for the wildlife so that the shooters have more time with a subject. It is just the way it has to be. It would take forever to get articles done if it were not done that way.
I do think it is questionable for a noteworthy photographer to milk the public by setting an absurd price for a regular holiday by using the name of a noteworthy publication. But more power to him. He has good salesmanship. I prefer to share my knowledge when possible, and do so on a regular basis.
None of the members here should sell themselves short, or envy the famous. Do what you enjoy, and you will be much happier. I guess I will get off my soapbox. I enjoy all of your postings on this site. Keep them coming, as well as all of the great info you provide to others.
A soap box oratory is a good thing...sometime. I do agree with you. Use the professionsal photographs as a goal to achieve, but enjoy your sucesses and dump the boo boos like every other human being on this planet. I always like the saying "Learn by doing". Just enjoy yourselves and move on.
